Parents and Students,
Remember that we are testing for the next few weeks. Our classes schedule is: April 20 and 21, we are taking our end of level math test. April April 27 and 28 we are taking the language arts end of level tests. Please, please help you students be here at school. It makes it very difficult to work it out to have them make it up. Also help them to have a good breakfast and get enough rest. They will do super! Go Cougars!

Another reminder to get your science fair project finished!! We want to send a great representative from Washington Elementary!
Positive Attitude
Last months Positive Action award went to Patricia for always having a positive attitude. She is always kind and respectful to everyone! We are very lucky to have her in our class. And somehow I got lucky enough to be nominated as a tie for the teachers with Mrs. Quann and Mrs. Hartley! Thanks!

Ancestor Writing Contest
Parents and Students-
I am very excited to read and explore the lives of your ancestors with you. This assignment is not meant to be difficult, just a chance for the students to learn about their past. I have seen some wonderful ideas so far as the students have submitted their names to me today! This is the timeline for the week. If the student has a busy night one of the nights, feel free to do one of the jobs a previous night:
Monday: Getting an ancestors name- Bring it Tuesday
Tuesday: Getting the research to go with the ancestor- tell me they have it Wednesday
Wednesday: Write the first draft- Bring it Friday
Thursday: Write the first draft- Bring it Friday
Friday: In class we will meet with partners and edit each others' papers. They can be hand written or typed.
For the contest, they must be 300 words or more, but for the grade in my class they do not need to be that long. The most important thing to me, is they learn about their ancestor.
If you have no record of a great- grandparent, the student may do a grandparent, they just won't be able to submit it to the contest; however, they will still get a grade in the class.
If you have any questions please let me know!! Thanks! Hope you enjoy exploring the past!

Dinner for Darby
Tuesday, February 10, at Washington Elementary will be having a "Dinner for Darby." Darby is a student in the fourth grade here at Washington Elementary who has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. We encourage everyone to come and support this event, all the money will help to pay for the cost of her treatments. The dinner is from 6-9 and there will be performances from the choir as well. All items are only $0.25! So you could bring the whole family!
As a fourth grade we are in charge of the bake sale. If you are interested in making a baked good for us to sell at the dinner, please let us know. We will also be sending a note home with your student. Thanks so much for all you help and support! Hope to see you all there!

Water Cycle, Habitats, Weather, Fossils, Rocks, and Minerals!
Oh boy, I know the title sounds long, but these are all the different things we are learning about in science. Each day the students learn something from each of the different sections. Ask your students what they learned that day in science when they get home. The more practice they have talking about it, the easier it will become. They can also practice taking tests on science by going to the Utips website. This is a wonderful site that I highly recommend them doing in their spare time! The website is: www.wes.utips.washk12.org/
